Mike Gravel is working hard in New Hampshire!

Not surprisingly, Mike Gravel did not place #1 in the Iowa caucus, nor did he place in the top 3. However, unlike Kucinich and Todd, Gravel remains in the race and is campaiging hard in New Hampshire. Yesterday, Gravel spoke at a town hall meeting at Exeter Academy, while he is scheduled to make many appearances today (Jan 7), inluding at New Hampshire television studio, WMUR, the "Every Child Matters" forum in Concord, NH, a coffee-chat with NH veterans in a living center, and one breakfast to thank his supporters. Such intimate appearances in the middle of a Presidential race is rare for any candidate, and it further emphasizes Gravel's differences with the other candidiates.

According to the website, Va Joe Candidate Calculator, Mike Gravel is actually the presidential whose positions are most aligned with those of their pollers. This site is used by veterans and thier families, and their "calculator" works by presenting a list of issues to their pollers in which the pollers declare their position on each issue. The "calculator" then matches up their opinions with the Presidential Candidate that has the most view points as them. Currently, Mike Gravel is in the lead, proving that he might have a much larger "fan base" than one would presume. It is clear from his perserverance, that Mike Gravel believes in his presidential potential, and I look forward to witnessing his battle in New Hampshire!

I didn't realize until a few weeks ago how old Gravel is - 77. While Gravel's campaign doesn't look as though it will have any major effect on the race, Gravel himself contributes to an interesting dynamic among the Democratic candidates. Gravel is part of the old guard, one of those Democrats from the time of Lyndon Johnson, while Obama represents a new generation - not only is he the youngest of the group, but he's also African American. The dynamic between these two, though it is limited, is quite interesting, as both come from vastly different political eras, yet they disagree on very few issues.

It is very interesting to watch Gravel’s bold struggle in trying to survive through the race to become the next Democratic president despite the fact that this is very hard to do. It is almost amusing and entertaining to watch his struggle helping his campaign by speaking at places such as the Town Hall meeting at the Exeter Academy, the WMUR, and the New Hampshire television studio. His move is very uncommon among presidential candidates, but this only shows viewers his strong perseverance and his belief of a strong president. I am excited to watch him through the rest of the race and hope his struggle is successful despite his best efforts.
